The farmers’ market started as a new venture in April 2003 following an idea put forward by the Village Hall Management Committee to provide a service for our community. In addition to offering food and other items the market is a social occasion with refreshments available.
Our stall holders and customers are all very welcoming, giving us our well deserved reputation of being a friendly place to visit. We do hope you will come and find out for yourselves. Customers drive from many miles around.
Run by volunteers the market is a non-profit making charity and every penny we raise from these markets goes back into the maintenance of our Village Hall. The number of stalls varies each week, some attend weekly. others fortnightly and there are guest attendances of specialist producers. We have previously been voted BEST FARMERS MARKET IN KENT, by the Kent Life Magazine Food & Drinks Awards and also the Kent Technology and Enterprise Award. We are naturally thrilled with these awards and as you will see on our website, we also have stallholders who have won awards!
Kent Farmers’ Market Association represents most of the Farmers’ Markets in Kent (and some beyond).
Our objective is to:
help market managers and stallholders improve standards through guidance and training
promote best practice
encourage collaboration in marketing and purchasing;
help stallholders find outlets for their products;
advise new markets on establishing strong foundations;
stimulate the understanding of the benefits of local food;
drive up footfall and spend per shopper
promote farmers’ markets to the public.
We believe that farmers’ markets provide shoppers with high quality, nutritious, traceable, fresh local food and drink.
They act as business incubators, giving small food and craft enterprises a low cost opportunity to sell direct to the public.
They provide a social hub, provide vital local services and contribute to the development of robust and sustainable local economies.
